Dr. June Halloran
UCLA thaumaturgy, junior faculty, no budget. Explains anything at length and signs the paperwork herself.
Junior faculty at the institute, six years in, doing good work on mana gradients in the basin with equipment she has to book three weeks ahead. The field kit itself is security surplus, bought at a lot auction when a contractor folded, and looks it: a directional pickup, a monocle rig, a bracketed screen cabled to the lot, all of it built for eavesdropping and rebuilt for mana work. Thirty, one of the first elves born on this side of the border, enthusiastic in the specific way of someone who has not yet been disappointed institutionally.
She is the crew's best source for any magical question in Los Angeles, and she is delighted to be asked.
What the crew knows#
- She explains things well and at length, for free, because nobody usually asks.
- Her survey data on the basin is the best that exists, and it shows something odd running south that she does not have the budget to chase.
- She will hire the crew with institute money for fieldwork, on a real contract, and she is scrupulous about the paperwork.
- Ask who funds the institute and you get an honest answer about a foundation, and then the honesty runs out, not because she's lying, because she doesn't know.
